Original Hanau Sollux light

sold + tax

This lamp was made by Heraeus from the town of Hanau. (Incidentally, Heraeus was the company which invented the mercury-vapour lamp, which subsequently led to the development of the tanning lamp.) The lamp on offer here was used in the 1930s as a heat radiation lamp in all sorts of medical facilities. The base is made out of cast iron. The lamp has been polished and chromium-plated. Some of the small components in the lamp arm are made of polished aluminium, while others are chromium-plated steel. The aluminium body has also been polished. Although the lamp still contains the original socket, it has been converted to take E27 bulbs. The wiring has been replaced with black, cotton-insulated cable.
