These charming hospital stools date back to the 1940s or 1950s, and we stock a number of very similar designs. In each case the steel frame has been sandblasted, brushed and waxed.

An office or architect’s chair, the design of which was originated by Robert Wagner's firm in Chemnitz better known as Rowac. Rowac made seating and office furniture mainly out of steel, and delivered it all over Europe.
The manufacturer’s main aims were to provide robust quality (indeed, Robert Wagner sold his furniture with a lifetime guarantee) and to make healthy seating. This chair design was one of his most famous and most successful products. In fact his uncompromisingly simple designs and their outstanding quality appealed to Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus. And in the 1920s Gropius furnished the Bauhaus workshops with Rowac products.
The wooden parts have been sanded and treated with linseed oil. The steel components have been brushed and cleaned with steel wool, before treated with linseed oil. The rotating seat is height-adjustable. The backrest is flexible and can also be adjusted in height.

This tubular steel chair was manufactured in the East German era by VEB Stima in Stendal.
In the 1920s, the same company designed furniture for the Bauhaus and made some of the first ever tubular steel furniture in the world. This loop seat probably dates back to the 1950s and was used in either a workshop or a school.
This nice solid bench has cast-iron legs that originally supported a lathe. The seat is made out of sanded and oiled pinewood. The legs have been treated with hard wax oil to protect them against corrosion.
