The design of this lamp was strongly influenced by Bauhaus alumna Marianne Brandt. Produced in the 1950s in East Germany, it was used in areas where lamps were only exposed to limited mechanical stress such as spinning mills, the textile industry and warehouses. This Bakelite version is much rarer than our lights made out of enamelled steel. The Bakelite shade is fitted with an aluminium junction box with a Bakelite lid and a ceramic socket for E27 bulbs. The black Bakelite exterior has been cleaned and is in very good condition while the interior has been refinished in light grey.
