This wooden dolly built to shift heavy items was originally used at Blüthner’s legendary piano factory in Leipzig. We think it dates back to around 1880.
One notable feature is the huge wheels in the middle made out of cast iron. The addition of the glass top means it can now be used as, say, a coffee table. And of course, remove the glass and it’ll still make an excellent industrial dolly!
After completely dismantling the dolly, the metal components were sandblasted, brushed and waxed. We also sanded the wood and treated it with linseed oil before reassembling the dolly using wood adhesive. The glass tabletop is 1cm thick. After smoothing down its edges, it was fixed in place using rubber attachments.
Another variation of this table can be found in our product archive.
